The sun blazed over Miami, a city pulsing with the energy of the Pro Padel League’s 2025 season opener. The first day of the tournament at the Wayfair Arena showcased a high-stakes women’s doubles match between the Las Vegas Smash and the Cancún Waves. On one side of the court stood Las Vegas’s formidable duo, Marta Ortega and Alejandra Alonso. Their opponents, Marina Lobo and Sofia Saiz of the Cancún Waves, were ready to battle.
The match was a display of skill and determination. Ortega and Alonso, a duo known for their tactical control and powerful net play, quickly established a dominant lead in the first set. The Cancún Waves struggled to convert volleys and match their opponents’ aggression, and the first set ended 6-2 in favor of the Smash.
In the second set, Lobo and Saiz mounted a gritty comeback, extending rallies and improving their defense. They pushed the set to a tense 5-4, but ultimately, the experience of the Las Vegas duo proved too much. Marta Ortega’s exceptional court awareness and quick reflexes at the net sealed the victory, with the final score a decisive 6-4. The win gave the Las Vegas Smash a 2-0 team lead on the first day of the competition, setting the tone for an exciting tournament ahead.
