In a thrilling finale to the 2024 regular season, the Las Vegas Smash were crowned champions at the Pro Padel League (PPL) event in San Diego, solidifying their status as a dominant force in professional padel. The Smash defeated the New York Atlantics in a captivating final that showcased some of the world’s best players.
The championship battle began with the women’s doubles match, where the Smash’s Marta Ortega and Alejandra Alonso delivered a masterful performance, defeating the Atlantics’ Andrea Ustero and Virginia Riera in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. The momentum continued with the highly anticipated men’s doubles matchup. Las Vegas’s Gonzalo Alfonso and Pablo Cardona secured a hard-fought first set against Federico Chingotto and Luis Campagnolo of the Atlantics, winning 7-5. While the Atlantics rallied to take the second set 6-3, the Smash closed out the match and claimed the title with a decisive 10-3 victory in the final tiebreaker.
The tournament drew record-breaking attendance, with PPL Commissioner and Co-Founder Marcos Del Pilar praising the high level of competition and the exciting, tiebreaker-decided matches. With the regular season now complete, the top eight teams in the league standings will advance to the PPL Cup in November, promising a thrilling conclusion to the 2024 season
